What is BJJ?
An excellent answer to this question can be found here: https://www.bjjheroes.com/bjj-news/brazilian-jiu-jitsu
What do I wear?
While a gi (kimono) is typically worn for all classes not labeled “no gi” (see below for more information on that), comfortable workout clothes are acceptable for any class for newer members.
What is a typical class?
The structure of each class is up to the individual instructor and tailored toward the class skill level. For example, a typical intermediate class BJ teaches involves a short dynamic warm up including plyometric and callisthenic exercises and a repetitive drilling portion of common grappling movements (15-30 minutes); followed by a detailed instruction portion of 2-3 related techniques (30-45 minutes); and concluding with some form of live training (30-60 minutes).
What is the difference between gi and nogi?
While traditionally the sport of jiu-jitsu has been performed in the kimono/gi, we believe well-rounded grapplers should be proficient both with and without the gi, so we have classes both with and without the gi (without the gi is commonly referred to as nogi (t-shirt and shorts)).
